Veterinary ophthalmology
Veterinary ophthalmology is a developing veterinary field. In
the Czech Republic has met a big progress in the past years. The
aim of ophthalmologist’s work is to cure eye problems that can
be compared to humans’ specialized eye disease. That is why we
often encounter eye disease such as glaucoma or cataract,
tumours, congenital lid defects, inflammatory disease, lacrimal
gland diseases, degenerative retina disease, corneal ulcer, etc.
We are really interested in offering veterinary services on a high level.
To maintain nowadays high standard of our services we participate in ophthalmology oriented congresses in the Czech Republic and abroad. We also organize specialized seminars for practical vets from the Czech Republic. We want to clarify the most frequent eye problems by publishing articles in veterinary magazines for breeders. Our close contacts with ophthalmology clinics in Zlín and Opava make the application of new information from this field possible. Our participation in various seminars for human ophthalmologists helps to improve our knowledge in this field. One of our representatives has been elected to th examining board of Czech Veterinary Doctors’ Chamber for eye defects assessors. Our workplace has been certified to identify dogs’ and cats’ inherited eye diseases since November 2001.
Our clinics belongs to the group of other workplaces in our country that offer specialized eye diagnostic and therapeutic service for patients from other Moravian and Silesian districts.

- cytological examination of eye tissue (conjunctiva, cornea)
- biopsy and histological examination in cooperation with specialized veterinary laboratory
- X – ray eye and orbit examination
- contrast lacrimal tract X-ray
- eye and orbit ultrasound scan
- special diagnostic colouring technique
- measuring of current tear production
- glaucoma diagnosis: taking of intraocular pressure, gonioscopic examination of angle state

3.Surgery Service
- eyelid surgery examination: ectropia and entropia including combinatory defects of eyelid edge position
- eye lashes position defects: trichiasis, distichiasis, ectopic cilia
- trasnsmissive eyelid disease: new shapes, injuries post traumatic reconstruction, chalazion and stye.
- third eyelid: deformations of cartilage, 3rd eyelid lachrymal gland prolapsus, traumas, shortening and corrective procedures
- Cornea: cornea ulcers, perforation, injured cornea treatment, foreign bodies in cornea, cornea micro surgery
- filtering anti-glaucoma operations
- enucleation, evisceration, implantation of silicone eye prothesis, solving of final states of decompensative glaucoma
